Parkstone Yacht Club sought architectural input for a new clubhouse and concept masterplan of their site to the water’s edge of Poole Harbour overlooking Sandbanks, Brownsea Island and Old Poole Town Centre. After being successfully interviewed and shortlisted in December 2013, we have designed a contextual scheme that responds directly to this waterside location with its expansive views. The building has been conceived to be seen from water and land with equal importance. We have focused on a solution that functions at a series of scales; with an identifiable but exciting architectural form when seen at a distance; expansive terraces and flexible open plan internal spaces to cater for events and functions throughout the year, and more intimate sheltered spaces for use at any time and for any weather.
