Medbourne

Situated in the Hallaton Conservation Area, Medbourne Road is a typical 1970s property in need of modernisation. The clients came to AR Design Studio wanting to maximise its potential and take advantage of the beautiful views across the rolling Leicestershire countryside.

The scheme provides a contemporary extension to the first floor of the existing house, and a complete refurbishment to the existing dwelling in its entirety.

The concept of the proposal is driven by the existing building volumes, which can be read as two distinct blocks. A third block is added through the proposed first floor extension. This new element clad in timber contrasts and provides the impression of carefully stacked volumes. Glazing stretches between each of these blocks, creating permeability in the design and allowing views out into the landscape.
