‘The Crow’s Nest’ Wins Twice At The UK Property Awards
AR Design Studio is pleased to announce ‘The Crow’s Nest’ received the UK Property Award for Best Architecture Single Residence South West England at the UK Property Awards last Friday held at The Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. At the awards AR Design Studio also received a nomination to represent the UK at the International Property Awards to be held in December at The Savoy.

The UK Property Awards were judged by an independent panel of 70 industry experts. Judging focused on design, quality, service, innovation, originality, and commitment to sustainability. The judging panel was chaired by members of the House of Lords and are the largest, most prestigious, and widely recognised programme throughout the regions.
AR Design Studio was approached by the clients who were looking to extend their holiday home on a cliff top on the South Coast. Half way through the planning process, the existing house catastrophically broke in half one night during a landslip.
The practice was then tasked with designing a completely new home; the idea of movement and fracturing formed the backbone of the concept. Working closely with engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan, a floating structural frame utilised mechanical jacks to enable the house to be securely re-levelled.
The design concept starts as a traditional cabin-like-form that then splits, twists and rotates, resulting in three pods. Each of the pods have individual functions and can move independently of each-other to adapt to the changing landscape.
The result is a playful and calm space for the owners to enjoy weekends with family and friends whilst taking in the spectacular and isolated location in which it sits.
