Established over a decade ago by Andy Ramus, AR Design Studio is a modern architecture practice with a talented, young and ambitious team creating an exciting hub of contemporary architects. After spending four years working for several large scale practices in London on a wide variety of projects, Andy set up his practice in Winchester, Hampshire and Dorset.
Founder and Director
When not running AR Design Studio, Andy can be found sailing, surfing, snow-boarding or cycling – come rain or shine. It’s no accident he’s a double world champion sailor. He values friendship highly and finds pleasure in sharing good times, and is always surrounded by good friends.
A wanna-be super dad, he would do anything for his precious Jules and their son Finn.
With the AR team, Andy is a decisive boss, a competent leader, an encouraging mentor, a helpful colleague, a good, fun friend.
I joined AR Design Studio in 2012 to pursue my passion of residential design. I have worked on an established portfolio of residential projects during my career and enjoy working with private clients to realise their aspirations of ‘Home’.
I studied at Manchester University and Oxford Brookes, in between working for Colman Architects in London and Jones Architecture in Sydney.
I am a doer, and thrive on tackling complex issues with simple solutions. Working with a creative and passionate team my main focus is on delivering exceptional design into the built form. A complex process with a refined and simple building at its end.
Having graduated from the University of the West of England, I joined the studio in July 2013. Since then I have also completed my Master’s degree at the University of Westminster, graduating with Distinction and the Sir Banister Fletcher Prize for the best original piece of writing on the Dissertation module.
I am one of the designers responsible for the day to day running of a number of projects, from conception to completion. I am interested in working on complicated sites and developing creative architectural solutions to them through the use of light, material and form.
I joined AR Design in 2016 with 12 years work experience in Greece, covering a wide range of projects including low-rise residential, hospitality, cultural and flat refurbishments.
My strong construction experience, together with my pragmatic mindset enables me to contribute primarily to the technical section of AR. This allows me to expand my technical creativity and inventiveness in outstanding high-end contemporary bespoke projects.
When not contributing to the creation of amazing architecture, I enjoy walking around Winchester with my girls (wife and daughter), playing music with my band or sowing new veggies in my allotment.
I first joined AR Design Studio in 2013 after graduating from the University of Kent with 1st class honours. After a year with AR I went on to complete my Masters at the University of Liverpool. This work earnt a nomination for the international Presidents Silver Medal award.
Working as a member of such a young and developing team is a fantastic opportunity. As a practice the enthusiasm and design heavy approach to projects shows as we are always discussing schemes and bouncing ideas, a great environment for me to learn and develop my skills.
I also love Lego, lots and lots of Lego.
Duncan van Ellemeet
Since starting my architectural education in 2006, I’ve benefited from a broad range of experiences in professional practice in the UK and aboard. I worked for top commercial architects in Singapore, the Netherlands and in London before joining AR Design Studio in 2019.
My current role at AR is contributing to the technical design of projects where I can bring my experience from working on complex construction projects. At AR, I’ve been most impressed with how the studio develop briefs into good working designs. It great being part of an exciting team that works with clients throughout the process from early concept through to completion.
Outside of work I can be found playing tennis or likely exploring the beautiful coast in my self-build camper.
I first joined the studio after finishing my Undergraduate at Portsmouth in 2015, and have since gone on to complete my Master’s at Bath. Having moved to Winchester and returned to AR as a Part II. I have had the opportunity to see projects progress, which has been very satisfying! I have also seen the practice methodology evolve, pushing the boundaries of what we do even further.
My future goals include completing my Part III and getting a daschund. For now though, I will just have to try to keep my house plants alive...
After completing my Masters Degree in Architecture at Oxford Brookes University, I joined AR Design Studio to specialise in residential design.
Previously, I studied at the University of Kent, followed by a year in Zurich, Switzerland, where I gained experience working for a Swiss Architect’s Practice.
Having grown up moving from Germany to Belgium, Singapore, Canada and Switzerland, I know the importance of making a space feel personal, no matter where in the world you are!

I joined AR Design in 2019 having graduated with first class honours in Architecture from the University of Plymouth. From the work of my final semester, I was awarded the Design Studio Prize for Third Year.
I have a particular interest in how design can affect a user’s experience of place, both in the present and in future years. Being part of such an ambitious team has been a great opportunity, everyone is willing to push the boundaries and continuously perfect their designs.
When not in the studio, I enjoy fishing in remote locations and studying local Lepidoptera.
After graduating from the University of Plymouth with a nomination for the RIBA bronze award , I joined AR Design Studio in the summer of 2019.
Since joining the team I have already gained a lot of experience from working across a whole variety of projects, and am looking forward to continue my progression over the next year, where I will then go on to complete my masters and continue the journey to becoming a qualified architect.
During my free time I can often be found tinkering with my car or making the most of the great Winchester pubs.
I joined AR design studio in 2018 having graduated with a first class honours in Architecture and Planning from the University of the West of England.
I am passionate about creative and thoughtful design and have a keen interest in the experience of place. This studio provides a great environment to employ and develop these interests and develop as a young architectural designer. I am now working towards my Part II at the Welsh School of Architecture with the support of the team at AR.
Having just moved up to Hampshire from Devon, I am enjoying exploring the south coast either sailing or windsurfing!
Office Manager and PA to Director
After gaining my Masters in International Politics at Manchester University, I fell into project assistant work in the construction industry. After some travelling, I discovered the world of Superyachts where I worked my way up over 5 years to manage the interior workings of a new build sailing yacht. Having moved back to dry land 3 years ago my passion for interior design coupled with my organisation and communication skills meant the role of Office Manager & PA at AR Design Studio was a perfect new adventure for me.
I enjoy the variety and pace of this exciting role and working within a team that is so creative. I thrive on the organisation necessary and the fact I can utilise my love of a good spreadsheet!
