AR Design Studio is an award-winning contemporary architectural practice, based in Winchester, Hampshire, specialising in elegant modern new homes, extensions, renovations and multi-plot developments.
Established 25 years ago by Andy Ramus, AR Design Studio is a modern architecture practice with a talented, young and ambitious team creating an exciting hub of contemporary architects. After spending four years working for several large scale practices in London on a wide variety of projects, Andy set up his practice in Winchester, Hampshire and Dorset.
Andy Ramus
Founder and Director
When not running AR Design Studio, Andy can be found sailing, surfing, snow-boarding or cycling – come rain or shine. It’s no accident he’s a double world champion sailor. He values friendship highly and finds pleasure in sharing good times, and is always surrounded by good friends.
A wanna-be super dad, he would do anything for his precious Jules and their son Finn.
With the AR team, Andy is a decisive boss, a competent leader, an encouraging mentor, a helpful colleague, a good, fun friend.
Tom Ford
Architect
I first joined AR Design Studio in 2013 after graduating from the University of Kent with 1st class honours. After a year with AR I went on to complete my Masters at the University of Liverpool. This work was nominated for the International Presidents Silver Medal award.
Working as a member of such a young and developing team is a fantastic opportunity. As a practice the enthusiasm and design heavy approach to projects shows as we are always discussing schemes and bouncing ideas, a great environment for me to learn and develop my skills.
I also love Lego, lots and lots of Lego.
Krzysztof Bak
Architect
I joined AR Design Studio in 2025, driven by a passion for contemporary architecture and thoughtful design. I enjoy the creative challenge of designing unique homes, guiding each project from the first sketch to the final build.
Working alongside a collaborative and dedicated team continues to inspire me and expand my skills—whether through concept development, detailed design, or time spent on site.
Outside of architecture, I find joy in nature and outdoor activities, which help me stay balanced and inspired.
Joseph Hall
Part 2 Architectural Assistant
I joined AR Design Studio in 2025, where I’ve continued to develop my passion for thoughtful, environmentally conscious architecture. Completing my masters at the University of Nottingham sparked a deep interest in sustainable design and vernacular architecture, particularly how local materials and traditional building techniques can shape contemporary practice.
At AR, I’m lucky to work alongside a talented and curious team whose creativity continually inspires me. Collaborating within such a dynamic environment encourages fresh thinking and a balanced approach between design ambition and environmental responsibility.
Outside of the studio, I enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, camping and staying active through boxing. I also appreciate taking time to unwind in a good pub.
Ciara Walsh
Part 1 Architectural Assistant
I joined AR Design Studio after graduating from Falmouth University in 2024. It was during my time at Falmouth that I developed a strong passion for sustainable building techniques and the vital role materials play in creating thoughtful, lasting designs. This interest continues to shape my approach to architecture as I strive to balance innovation with environmental responsibility.
I feel incredibly fortunate at AR to have the opportunity to work alongside such talented designers, where I can observe and participate in the design process. It's been an invaluable experience, helping me refine my skills while being inspired by the creativity around me.
Outside of architecture, I enjoy going to gigs of almost every genre you can imagine, spending time with my overweight cat and heading back to Cornwall whenever I get the chance.
Oliver Bell
Part 1 Architectural Assistant
I joined AR Design Studio in 2025 after completing my degree in Architectural Design and Technology at Solent University. My studies gave me a strong grounding in the technical aspects of architecture, from construction methods and materials to digital modelling and detailing, while also highlighting the importance of integrating sustainable practices into every stage of the design process.
Since joining the studio, I’ve enjoyed applying this technical knowledge to live projects, developing drawings, specifications, and models that bridge the gap between concept and construction. I have taken particular satisfaction in problem solving and ensuring that design ideas are both practical and buildable.
Outside of work, I enjoy trips to the cinema, going on motorbike rides, playing challenging video games and painting Warhammer, which give me new ways to explore creativity and strategy beyond the digital drawings.
Sarah Williams
Office Manager and PA to Director
I joined AR Design in 2025 after honing my Office Management and PA skills in other industries.
I enjoy organisation and planning and have learn so much about Architecture in a practise and within a team who are dynamic and design exciting and innovative projects.
In my spare time I love spending time with family and friends, I am a wild swimmer, keen baker and a voracious reader.
