The Observatory Competition

The Observatory is an architectural intervention aimed at giving artists the opportunity to experience a landscape in a new dynamic, from which they can interpret in their own ways.

Designed in collaboration with artist Caroline Hall, whose work transforms the experiential feelings of journey and movement into physical oil paint canvas.

The Observatory doubles as a studio space and place of shelter against the elements. Sitting upon a run of train tracks, this dynamic viewport is able to be mechanically operated by each user to hike along the tracks and rotate 360 degrees to any desired vantage point.

The overriding idea is to provide an interactive architectural intervention that can enhance the creative process of the artist and their experience of a place, whilst also serving as a source of intrigue in its own right.
